Options for nervous patients at Kings Dental Subiaco

Do you dread going to the dentist in Subiaco? Or would you rather not even contemplate attending?

If the answer is yes then rest assured, you are not alone.

There are many people in the world who have a dental phobia. And while in the past the majority of dental teams would not have taken such things seriously, in 2022, we do. And we want to help you to manage it and hopefully, fully recover from it.

At Kings Dental Subiaco, our team knows the downside to developing a dental phobia. So, we are always investing in new ways to train our team in order to ensure that when our nervous patients visit our surgery, they are always cared for with the highest level of compassion.

With that in mind, what are some of the ways that our team at Kings Dental Subiaco can help you to relax while visiting our dentist? Read on to find out.

Headphones

In many cases, our patients who dislike the sound of the drill will want a distraction. And this is where our team at Kings Dental Subiaco can help. We can provide you with soothing music to listen to through headphones, which can block out the sound of a drill.

Alternatively, you can bring your own music in to listen to while we work on your teeth. Just be sure that it isn’t anything with a sudden stop or start, as we don’t want you to jump!

Nitrous oxide

Ah yes, the good old fashioned laughing gas.

This is a popular choice for patients who may want a slightly more removed experience while we work on their teeth.

Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is inhaled through a mask. After which, you will feel dizzy and in a dreamlike state. But don’t worry, you will be able to respond to our team's instructions. You simply won’t be able to remember the treatments you had afterwards.

A key advantage of this method is that it allows you to go about your day as normal afterwards.

Oral sedation

Our team uses valium when we offer our patients oral sedation.

This is a benzodiazepine. But, this can cause issues for patients who may be sensitive to benzodiazepines, or cannot take them due to other medications, such as anti anxieties.

However, valium is a great option if you want a more enhanced state of relaxation while in the dental chair.

After this, you will need to have someone pick you up and escort you home, as you will not be allowed to drive.

Intravenous sedation

Intravenous sedation, (IV sedation), is like the aforementioned example, except it is administered via a needle into your arm.

As before, you will be able to respond to verbal cues from our team, but will not experience any discomfort. And as before, you will need someone to take you home afterwards and keep an eye on you.

General anaesthesia

We are able to offer day surgeries, where we can provide general anaesthetic if you want to be completely unconscious for the process. Once again, there will be no discomfort, no memory of the procedure and you will need an escort home too.
