Teeth Whitening

If you are self-conscious about the shade of your teeth or if you have staining on some of your teeth, professional teeth whitening may be a good option for you. If you are about to commence some major dental treatment (crowns, implants, veneers) then generally we suggest considering pre-treatment teeth whitening so that we can get your teeth to a desired level of lightness before we put in permanent fixtures like crowns

Regardless of how well you clean your teeth, it is inevitable that, over time, some yellowing or discolouration will occur. This gradual change can be caused by aging, substances that stain your teeth (such as coffee, red wine and tobacco) or the deterioration of a tooth’s nerve.

Tooth whitening treatment can be performed either as a dentist supervised process at home or in the dentist’s chair. Significant lightening can be achieved in the majority of cases but does have some inherent limitations. These variables can affect the outcome of treatment and include: the type of discolouration that affects your teeth, the overall condition of your teeth and existing fillings/restorative work present, and the degree to which you follow our instructions. The dentist will assess your teeth first and make sure that the type of stain you have is suited to improvement by whitening.

Home Whitening

At Home Whitening requires two appointments:

First, 30 minutes to take impressions of your teeth and discuss your level of sensitivity.

Secondly, 20 minutes to collect trays, whitening gel, desensitising paste and demonstrate their use. Depending on which formula of the whitening gel is suitable to you, the duration of time to wear the trays will vary and this will be decided upon in consult with your clinician. Treatment is usually for 14-21 days until the desired result is achieved. Depending on your teeth and the nature of their discolouration, this may need to be extended.

How long whitening treatments last depends on the individual. They usually begin to fade in 6 months to 1 year, requiring a “touch up” treatment. This involves a one week long course of home whitening with trays as above. Refill kits can be purchased from us.

A smile that you feel good about showing off, is something every one of our patients deserves. If you are shy about showing your smile due to discoloration or yellowing teeth, call Kings Dental and allow us to walk you through the fast, easy, and proven ways we can brighten your smile.

In-Office Whitening

The procedure is simple and usually takes about 90 minutes and begins with a short preparation to isolate your teeth to protect your lips and gums. The whitening gel is then applied as a coating to the teeth. The gel is a scientifically formulated, pH balanced, hydrogen peroxide that gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discolouration. No light is required. This technique whitens your teeth right away and has no side effects. It does not damage your teeth (light and lasers can sometimes increase dehydration and sensitivity to the teeth) and gives the best possible results.

Following in office whitening, you will leave with a top up kit of whitening gel to continue the treatment at home should you so wish.
